1638512591340199942 I encourage everyone to read @kirkkorner reportage on what the reality of Covid-era prosecutions, which are still ongoing, looks like. Thousands of people will have their lives blighted by criminal records for an inconsistently and badly implemented Covid control regime. https://t.co/C9ggOJrzEW 20
1639649237632954370 ⁦@kirkkorner⁩ Saw this and thought of you immediately Tristan - it’s something you’ve been highlighting for quite a bit now. Police in England and Wales ‘evading public scrutiny’ by deleting misconduct outcomes from websites | Police | The Guardian https://t.co/73XmWzQnVb 7
1640586675855187968 @kirkkorner @PenelopeGibbs2 It is a huge problem. If the police (and public) go to time and effort to submit video evidence, it should be made available to us to see. It isn't available to us at all in SJP. It is the process that needs change. Mags have very little say in this. 5
1640387681816289282 @kirkkorner @PenelopeGibbs2 - and a single justice going ahead and fining in the absence of any means information, and allowing a local authority to ask for more costs than the CPS 1
1640422277903728645 @kirkkorner @theJeremyVine A few? I believe that the Met in London in 2022 alone started almost 15,000 prosecutions based on 3rd party video reporting. I know little about the SJP, but when I've attended magistrates court, the video was almost always watched. 1
1638550067303923712 @kirkkorner this is the culture of @churchofengland It's normal for clergy, inlcuding senior clergy, not to be named at start of an investigation known as CDM, sometimes not suspended, even when convicted of serious misconduct not to be removed not named. All weighted against complainants. 1
1640620271999565831 @kirkkorner Depends on the court. Here we regularly play them. As long as the police attach them to the file. 1
1638984899813167122 @kirkkorner Don'g forget the issue of Common Platform too where court lists are limiting the amount of info they give. No name, no offence details. The door is shutting on open justice. 1
1639183902852915201 @rob_williams88 @kirkkorner That’s my point, literally. Mr Kirk opposes pre charge anonymity and pre-conviction anonymity 0
1638921638539403264 @kirkkorner And magistrates get slated for being amateurs @SecretJPUK @BarristerSecret 0

1640423352811520000 @kirkkorner @theJeremyVine I'd feel quite troubled if many people were being convicted via SJP without the magistrate/judge responsible having seen all the evidence, including the video, and not just statements. Personally I'm very careful with my statements and make sure I'm super accurate. 8

1640422039579181074 @kirkkorner If the defendant pleads guilty and if the court accepts their mitigation and sentences on that basis there is no need for them to view the video evidence. If however there is no plea and the case is being proved in absence then they should look at the video evidence. 5
