Before Donald Trump’s Twitter was suspended in the aftermath of the assault on the Capitol in 2021, it ranked among the top ten most followed accounts, with a staggering 88.8 million followers. Given recent debate about his possible return to the platform, we downloaded all his tweets and performed analysis on them. As a result, here are some stats on his Twitter influence.

Tweeting as much as Trump did, he used a number of platforms and devices to spread his message on the go. The data shows his tendency to tweet on the go, using mobile platforms for just over 75% of all tweets.

Of course, not all of these Tweets will come directly from Trump himself. There is a high likelihood that many of them may have come from or via his staff. As such, his use of different platforms may not all be his direct use.
A common theme of his most retweeted tweets was that, with the exception of a few, they were also his most controversial, divisive or just ridiculous.

In fact, his top favourited tweets mostly consist of those around the time of his bid for re-election, in which, it is clear to see, he claimed victory. Popular with many of his followers, despite being largely false.

Unsurprisingly, the most used hashtags coming out of the @realDonaldTrump was #Trump itself, followed by #MakeAmericaGreatAgain, a message he constantly pushed on his Twitter profile.

The graphic below shows the most used words or phrases in Trumps tweets and surprisingly, they aren’t necessarily what you’d think. Workers and American are two of the largest on the graphic, despite data above showing that most of his most popular tweets are the most divisive.

Conclusion
Before Trump’s Twitter was suspended in January 2021, he tweeted over fifty-six-thousand times. A serial tweeter, Trump used the platform to significantly influence his supporters and it worked. His tweets got him suspended for using that to incite the assault on the Capitol.
